How to Use Short-Form Video to Get More Clients as a Coach

Published by ClipForge | June 2026

You already know how to use short-form video to get more clients — in theory. You've seen it happen for others. A coach posts a 60-second clip from a webinar, it gets 40,000 views, and three people slide into the DMs asking about working together. You think: I should do that. Then you go back to running your business and it doesn't happen.

Meanwhile, your last Zoom training call is sitting in a Google Drive folder. Your webinar recording is on a hard drive. Your client Q&A from last month — where you dropped some of your best insights — is gathering digital dust.

That's the quiet drain most coaches and consultants don't talk about: not a lack of content, but a failure to extract the reach that's already inside it.

This guide is for coaches, consultants, and small business owners who already produce long-form video but aren't turning it into short-form clips. We'll cover why it matters, what to clip, how to do it, and the honest maths on time versus cost.

Why Short-Form Is the Fastest Client Acquisition Channel Right Now

Search and social have changed. If someone has a problem you solve — business growth, fitness, mindset, leadership — they are now searching for answers on TikTok before they search on Google. TikTok is the second-largest search engine for under-35s and growing fast across every demographic. If you're not on it, you're not in the conversation.

Instagram Reels for coaches is one of the most underused lead-generation tools available right now. The Explore tab pushes content to non-followers. A single well-produced Reels clip can reach thousands of people who've never heard of you — without a penny in ad spend. That's fundamentally different from organic posts, which largely reach people already following you.

There's also the authority compound effect. Video marketing for small business owners used to mean expensive production and broadcast TV. Now it means posting a 90-second clip on your phone and having someone who just watched it book a discovery call. Repeated exposure to your thinking, your voice, and your method turns strangers into warm prospects before they ever contact you.

Your competitors understand this. The coaches and consultants growing fastest in your niche right now are almost certainly showing up on short-form regularly. They didn't get bigger first and then start posting — they got bigger because they started posting.

What Content You Already Have That Clips Perfectly

This is the part most coaches miss: you don't need to create new content. You need to extract what's already there.

Webinar soundbites. Every webinar has 6–10 moments of genuine insight — the kind of thing participants screenshot and share. The moment you explain why something most people believe is wrong. The moment you give the specific tactic no one else is talking about. If you can repurpose webinar into clips, each one of those moments is a standalone short-form video. One 60-minute webinar contains a month of content.

Hot takes and opinion moments. "Here's what nobody in this industry wants to admit" performs extremely well across TikTok for business owners and Instagram Reels alike. Strong opinions generate comments, shares, and saves — the engagement signals that expand reach. If your webinar or coaching call had a moment where you pushed back on conventional thinking, that's a clip.

Live Q&A responses. When a client or participant asks a question you answer really well, that exchange compresses brilliantly into a short clip. The question provides natural context. The answer is your expertise on display. These clips signal authority to new audiences: this person knows what they're talking about.

Before/after transformations (without names). "A client came to me doing X. Six months later they're doing Y. Here's what changed" — anonymised, with permission — is one of the highest-converting formats for coaches. Social proof delivered as a story rather than a testimonial hits differently.

Specific tactical tips. "If you want [outcome], do [action], because [reason]" in 60 seconds is one of the most reliable short-form formats. These are everywhere in your existing recordings if you know what to look for.

How to Use Short-Form Video to Get More Clients: The Step-by-Step

Step 1: Mine for clip moments

Get a transcript of your recording — your Zoom account or a tool like Otter.ai can generate these automatically. Read the transcript and flag moments that match the types above. You'll identify 8–12 candidates from a 60-minute session in about 20 minutes. Note the timestamps.

Step 2: Extract the clips

Open your video in an editor and cut each clip to 45–90 seconds. Start at the interesting word — not the breath, filler, or "so, as I was saying." The first two seconds of your clip are everything: if you don't hook the viewer by then, they're gone.

Step 3: Reformat for vertical

Your webinar is almost certainly 16:9 landscape. Short-form is 9:16 portrait. The fastest method for talking-head footage: blur-and-expand. Place your original clip in the centre, fill the background with a blurred version of the same footage. It takes 30 seconds in most editors, looks intentional, and keeps your face fully visible.

Step 4: Add captions

Non-negotiable. Around 70–80% of short-form video is watched on mute. Large, centred, high-contrast, word-by-word captions aren't optional — they're what makes your content exist for most viewers. Highlight keywords in a different colour. It increases retention and makes the clip look professionally made.

Step 5: Write platform-specific copy

Each platform has its own format. TikTok for business owners: short caption, a question or provocative line, 3–5 hashtags. YouTube Shorts: keyword-first title, short description with a CTA. Instagram Reels for coaches: lead with the hook, end with a question to drive comments, 5–8 niche hashtags.

The ROI Maths: One Webinar, Real Numbers

One 60-minute webinar, mined properly, yields 8–12 clips. Post 2–3 per week and you've got a month of short-form content from a single session.

Assume a modest 5,000 views per clip — achievable with no existing following and consistent posting. That's 40,000–60,000 views per webinar at scale. If 1% of viewers visit your profile and 10% of those reach out, you're looking at 40–60 inbound prospects per webinar cycle.

Even at lower conversion — say 1–2 leads per month from a standing start — at typical coaching rates of £1,500–£5,000 per client, that's £1,500–£10,000 in pipeline from content you've already created. That's not a projection; that's the floor.

ClipForge makes this math work for coaches who don't have time to do the editing themselves — which brings us to the real blocker.

The Time Problem: 6–10 Hours Per Webinar

Here's where DIY breaks down.

Done properly — clipping, reformatting, captioning, writing platform copy — a single short clip takes 30–60 minutes. Ten clips from one webinar = 5–10 hours. Per webinar. Every month.

If you're running a coaching business, you do not have 8 spare hours a week for video editing. And if you try to squeeze it in, it doesn't get done well — rushed captions, no optimisation, inconsistent posting. The strategy works; the execution collapses.

Outsourcing the editing changes the model entirely. You run the webinar, you upload the recording, you get back 10 platform-ready clips. Your time investment drops from 8 hours to under 30 minutes.

The cost comparison is stark. A video repurposing service at £149/month means your clips cost roughly £15 each. One new client — even at the lowest coaching rates — covers months of that subscription. The question isn't whether you can afford to outsource it. It's whether you can afford not to.

Stop Leaving Reach Inside Your Recordings

The coaches winning on short-form right now aren't necessarily better at what they do than you. They've just stopped letting their best insights die in private recordings.

Every webinar you've run, every Zoom training you've delivered, every client Q&A you've recorded — there are clips inside each of them that could be landing in front of your ideal clients right now. The only thing missing is extraction.
